The Triplets in Jonkeshoek

October 5, 2017

It was one of the best hike I have ever done and my husband came with, which made it even more special!

We went  with a group of experienced hikers and we met at 7.30 am at the gate. A permit must be paid  to gain access to the Nature Reserve, which cost R40, not much considering the conservation efforts put on by the team of Cape Nature.

We had to drive for about 3 km on gravel rd to reach the first parking, where we left 2 cars for the return and we proceeded to the second parking where we started the hike from.

The weather was cloudy and the sun, hided behind the clouds, was coming out at various intervals. It was a perfect day for a long day hike!

It took us 9 hours to complete about 16km, walking on and off trail.

We were well equipped with map and compass, raincoat and enough tea and food for the day.

The first tea stop was at around 10.30am, where we found a wind free spot before taking the right direction and carry on with the path..

It was so beautiful hiking in between colourful hills, smelling the delicate scent of daisies, proteas, ericas and much more.

I discovered that the Four sisters is an ericoid.  The leaves are whorled in 3-4, often small needle-like.

Our Lunch break was at around 1.30pm, when we reached the second peak (1515m) of the Triplets and  the view from the top of the mountain is unbelievable!

On the way back to the car we took another road, a circular route which is a bit longer but with different type of vegetation...
